Yes, The Da Vinci Code. I've watched it yesterday. That 's the second movie i watched in the cinema this year. It was full house and the experience of sitting at the front row for 2 1/2 hour was scary! Nevertheless, it helped to sooth my mood lately, having the chance to get out from my house and work for a change..
Ok, truthfully speaking, the movie doesn't impressed me. I couldn't feel the excitement and the thrill of hunting for the Holy Grail and breaking codes. Tom Hanks wasn't at his best, more likely, he's a little bit lame as Robert Langdon. In the book, Robert Langdon was an expert, confident, charming and charismatic in his own way. The one in the movie? He's very self conscious, most of the time. You can even tell that he's not comfortable being himself. What a disappointment from Hanks! Was having such a high hope of him being the star in the movie! And who can believed that Sophie Neveu is the heir of Jesus and Mary Magdalene? She's not even intrigued to find out about the past of her histroy, the reason behind her grandpere's murder. Why wasn't anyone fascinated, or overwhelmed by the eventual discovery of the secrets about the gospells and Holy Grail? Gosh, it was real bad acting! The movie might have captured our hearts if the actors and actresses are truly portraying the eagerness in breaking codes and adventuring to the great secret. Sigh.. I don't think that it even matched the title of the movie..
The storyline in the movie has changed, which is quite understandable. It's somewhat like the Harry Potter series. But then, these changes has soften the nature of the story. The conspiracy and the code breaking, the twist... Again, the excitement has lost in the movie. It should have been more adventurous and less preaching. Porf. Langdon seems to keep on preaching about Christianity. Maybe the director wants to soften the controversy and eventually, escaped from being banned from the public. However, it's quite confusing and foggy for those who have not read the book. That's what Kat said. And for us who've read the book, it was purely disappontment.
However, the camera work was great. The angles gave a lot of breath of divinity, and the mysterious facet of the church. It reminds me how I felt everytime I entered a church. It's the same eerie feelings of someone watching you from the corner. The quietness, the untold stories, the history..... it still scared me even now.
While many christians were asked to stayed away from the movie, it just fired back and made people more curious about it. Mary's bones and Jesus' heir, what a combination! Wished that they really did the DNA testing. But one can only wonder.. Does the truth really have the valgurous impact on a 2 millenia-old faith? Will it change the faith in people? When it comes to faith and religion, it's always about how people chose to practice and to believe in it. This book is phenomenal because it gave us all something to ponder about in our faith. Be it christians, muslims, buddhists, hindus... It make us crave for more understanding about our faith. Well, this is a good thing eh?
